How to Build a Magic, Invisible Bookshelf

While browsing the interwebs Invisible
bookshelfyesterday, we happened across this handy Do-It-Yourself bookshelf that seemed appropriate for our blog. And although we may be biased since we are, well, a library, we thought, "What better way to make a bookshelf than out of magic floating books?"

Turns out the books aren't magic ... at least the ones in this post aren't. But this is nonetheless a cool idea and a fun project. One thing, though, PLEASE don't use library books for this project.

The Art of Story-Telling: 5 Ways to Become a Great Narrator

During Laman Library's Summer Reading Program Wednesday morning, Esther Crawford enchanted an audience of children and adults.

But Esther gave the crowd a gift far greater than a few stories -- she reminded us of the importance of story-telling during the malleable years of childhood.

Book Club Blog

Do you love to read and talk about books with friends or even perfect strangers but can't find the time to carve out book club meetings? Now you don't have to miss out on book clubs anymore.

At the Laman Book Club Blog, gather a group of people, pick a book and voice your thoughts whenever is convenient for you. When you've picked a book, shoot us an e-mail to let us know what the book is so we can post the jacket cover, title and synopsis. Then all you have to do is find the book your club is reading, and start interacting in the comment stream below that book. This way, life is never too busy to talk about books.

Devil in the White CityTwo men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century.

The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair's brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country's most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his "World's Fair Hotel" just west of the fairground -- a torture palace complete with dissection table, gas chamber, and 3,000-degree crematorium.

It is certain to touch anyone who has ever woken up to the unrelenting need for change.
