Community Support

The William F. Laman Public Library System supports the community in various ways. Besides offering free public access to information, we also contribute to several initiatives and programs.

Some of the things we support:

Arkansas Authors

Laman Library founded the Laman Library Writers Fellowship in March 2010 to provide grants to writers that will assist them in the writing and publishing process. Each year, a grant of up to $10,000 is awarded to a previously published Arkansas author.

Arkansas Scholars

Arkansas Scholars is a program that gives students good reasons to do well in high school. Students are asked to meet a set of criteria that will prepare them for both the workplace and additional education after high school. The program is centered on academic achievement for a broad range of students.

Tales from the South

"Tales from the South," brodcasted on KUAR, 89.1 FM, features true stories told by the southern writers who lived them. Contributors are from all walks of life and include professional writers as well as those who have never been published.

With Laman Library's help, "Tales from the South" is now syndicated nationally and is in negotiations with two Internet radio stations that have about 3 million listeners each!

"Tales from the South" is also now podcasted on iTunes.

As one of the major sponsors of ArtWeek, Laman Library helps cultivate a community that supports and appreciates the arts.
